Guyson Blast Cleaning System Has Large Work Table

June 21, 2004 - Saratoga Springs, NY

Guyson Corporation has developed an expanded workstation for its RXS-800 blast cleaning system that provides additional space for component handling at the load/unload position. A wrap-around table makes staging of parts, inspection routines or tray loading more convenient for the machine operator.

The RXS-800 is a mid-size rotary indexing table blast system with 4 ball bearing spindles equally spaced around the circumference of its 36 inch diameter table.

The interior of the cabinet is divided to create separate chambers for isolation, blast treatment and blow-off of processed components. The 50 inch by 64 inch footprint of the blast cabinet is not increased by the overhanging work table.

Inside the blast chamber, the fixtured component is rotated at adjustable speed as it surfaces are directly exposed to blast from up to 8 suction-blast guns or 4 pressure-blast nozzles. The array of nozzles can be rigidly locked in fixed position on multi-adjustable gun brackets to target specific areas of the component, or the machine designer and builder can incorporate oscillating or linear motion of the blast guns to cover more surface area with less consumption of compressed air.

The enhanced operator workstation of the RXS-800 is typically fitted with a light curtain to disable the machine's precise and powerful cam indexer when the human attendant is not safely clear. This protective feature can also be utilized to boost production when the signal from the light curtain is used to indicate when loading is complete and automatic indexing can be enabled.

Control functions and user-friendliness benefit from the addition of a compact touch-screen panel at the workstation. The blast system manufacturer claims that the human-machine interface (HMI) increases machine reliability by eliminating numerous separate switches, buttons and other electrical and electronic parts that would be subject to wear-and-tear or failure. The touch-screen HMI also simplifies use of the system for the human operators by its graphical display of prompts, fault indications, text messages and data on system status. The touch panel also expedites entry of dimensional data and processing commands into the systems programmable logic controller (PLC), and process integrity can be safeguarded by password protection of critical functions.

Prospective users of the RXS-800 or other automated blast systems are encouraged to submit sample components for evaluation and free testing in Guyson's fully equipped applications engineering laboratory.
